Grades 9/10 Boys 3rds Football Grand Final Report

After an enjoyable season, the Senior Thirds Football team were excited for what was set to be a close game against Kings Meadows High School in the Grand Final.

Faced with the extra challenge of a wet and windy day, the boys got off to a slow start as they adjusted to the conditions, failing to take advantage of kicking with a strong wind in the first quarter. Ethan S, Ashton B and Angus C were the standout performers in the first half, working hard to help the backline who were under pressure. After a late goal to Ethan S, Riverside High School took a small lead into half time.

With a strong wind heading towards the Riverside High School end, the boys knew the third quarter was going to be crucial if they were to win the game. Lachlan P and Angus C dominated the middle of the ground, setting up many opportunities for our forwards. Lincoln H made the most of these chances, kicking 4 goals in the third quarter and leading the boys to a huge 7 goal advantage at the end of the third quarter.

With a big lead in place, the Riverside High School boys knew the last quarter was an opportunity to have some fun, with the celebrations starting early when Hudson K kicked a brilliant goal, with every one of his teammates getting to him to celebrate. Lincoln H added a 5th goal to his individual tally for the day, while Henry S and Gregor T showed their ability with highlight plays of their own.

In the end, Riverside High School walked away with an outstanding 85-18 victory, with Lincoln H awarded the best on ground medal as voted by the umpires.
