Principal’s Report

Bolton_Jeanna.jpg

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we near the end of Term 2, I want to take this opportunity to thank our school community for your continued support, involvement, and commitment to our shared vision for student success:

“Every student at Riverside High School will be Known, Safe, Well, and Learning.”

This week, we completed our School Review, and I’m pleased to share that the feedback was excellent. The Review Panel affirmed the strength of our collaborative practices, the leadership and teaching teams, and the systems and structures we have in place to improve student learning outcomes. It was especially encouraging to see recognition of our strong academic results, inclusive culture, and commitment to student and staff wellbeing.

Thank you to the School Association, parents/guardians, and students who participated in the review. Your insights and feedback are invaluable. We remain committed to working in partnership with you to ensure the best outcomes for every student.

The Review Team’s affirmations highlighted the effectiveness of our structures and processes for co-constructing learning plans, which are ensuring consistent classroom adjustments as evidenced by feedback from families. They also acknowledged the passionate leadership driving a comprehensive school improvement agenda, the strong commitment from all staff and student leaders, and the alignment of curriculum planning across all three levels at Riverside High School.

Areas for growth include continuing to develop strategies for strengthening family partnerships in learning to prioritise connection, delivering timely and actionable feedback to students to support learning reflection, and communicating curriculum intentions and subject content more broadly to families. The School Review report is used by schools to inform School Improvement Plans.

Year 10 Transition Program

As we move through Term 2, I’d like to highlight the important work happening around student transitions, particularly for our Year 10 students as they begin planning for their future education and training pathways.

This term, our Year 10 Transition Program has been a key focus. Students have engaged in a range of activities designed to support informed decision-making about their senior secondary years and beyond. From career exploration sessions to guest speakers and site visits, we’ve aimed to provide students with the tools and experiences they need to make confident, well-informed choices.

We strongly encourage families to support students in visiting local colleges, training providers, and other relevant sites. These visits offer valuable insights into learning environments, course offerings, and support services helping students visualise their future and understand the options available to them.

The transition program is designed to ensure a smooth and supportive pathway for students continuing their education. It includes tailored academic and wellbeing support, flexible learning options, and strong connections with tertiary and vocational institutions.

We remain committed to fostering student agency in this process empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey and future goals. Year 10 students have now started their Transition Plans for 2026. Adam Child (AST) and Steven Hindrum are the Transition Leaders at Riverside High School. Please contact them if you have any questions regarding the transition program.

Breakfast Program – Riverside High School Café (8:15 to 8:45am)

Our Breakfast Program runs each morning from 8:15 to 8:45am in the school cafeteria. Breakfast is provided at no cost to students and includes cereal, warm drinks, toast, and fruit.

A big thank you to our Health Nurse (Nurse Nige), our School Chaplain (Michael), and the local businesses who generously donate food to support this program. Your contributions help ensure our students start the day nourished and ready to learn.
