Principal’s Report

Bolton_Jeanna.jpg

Dear Parents/Guardians

It has been a wonderful start to Term 2, with students focused on learning and excited for the change of option subjects and the opportunity to participate in school representative sport.  A reminder to parents/guardians that the school calendar can be located at https://riversidehigh.education.tas.edu.au/.

At the end of Term 1 the Interim Report for students was sent home.  This week, 260 students received Merit Certificates for Outstanding Application to Studies. These certificates recognise students outstanding application toward their studies, having demonstrated excellence in the attributes of effort, task completion, behaviour and organisation in all subjects.

New Staff

This term we welcomed Mr Cameron Doyle to the teaching team at Riverside High School. Mr Doyle will be a part of the Year 8 teaching team and is a trained Maths/HPE Teacher. We welcome Mr Doyle to Riverside High School.

School Uniform

As the weather becomes colder a reminder to students to transition to the school winter learning uniform.  The winter learning uniform is pictured in this week’s newsletter along with the sports uniform.  Students participating in the Year 9/10 NHSSSA Sports Roster are permitted to wear their sports uniform to school on the Wednesday and Year 8 students participating in the sport roster on a Thursday. The Riverside High School beanies are also an optional uniform garment for students in winter.

Importance of Home Group / Class Teacher 8:45-9:00am

Home Group starts at 8:45am each morning and it’s where Home Group Teachers record attendance and communicate important information to students about the day, school events, opportunities and extracurricular activities.

Home Group Teachers provide pastoral care to students ensuring they feel connected to school and friends and have a significant adult at school to communicate with. Please support your child to be at school on time and organised.

The Breakfast Club is open each day and all students are welcome to have breakfast in our Café from 8:10am.

The Riverside Shopping Complex will not serve students after 8:40am.  The complex of a morning is not supervised by teachers, so we are asking parents/guardians to ensure their child is dropped at school rather than the shopping complex of a morning.  If your son/daughter needs to go to the Shopping Complex, please support them to be at school on time.

Attendance - Every school day matters

We love seeing your child at school every day – it’s the best place for them to learn and grow. It’s a chance to be around their friends, learn new things (including life skills), spark their curiosity and have fun.

For tips on creating positive attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.

Please talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help and support is available.

Drug Education Network 2025 Year 8

Each year Riverside High School has Year 8 students engaged with the Drug Education Network (DEN). DEN work alongside school communities to provide education that supports the existing Health and Physical Education (HPE) curriculum. Students are provided the information they need to stay safe and make informed decisions about alcohol and other drugs. We thank DEN again for engaging with our Year 8 students and providing engaging and age-appropriate information.

Student Walking Route Reminder

Please notice that the main access point to the student admin counter is via the courtyard.

If arriving to school from a parent drop off, please ask them to drop you at the Parent Parking Bays so you can walk to the Student Admin Counter via the courtyard. The Admin Entrance is not for student entry to school.

When leaving in the direction of Windsor, use the crossing adjacent to bus stop 1.

Please make yourself familiar with the expected entry and exit pathways.

NEVER CROSS across the highway nor walk or ride on Brownfield’s Lane. Always use the pathways in and out of school, the underpass or lights to cross the highway.

Thank you for your co-operation.
